Wildlife Conservation Course :Research and Monitoring

Research & Monitoring

Modern field guides play an increasingly important role in conservation. The Bhejane Research & Monitoring Module introduces students to the practical skills required to collect, interpret and communicate ecological data used by wildlife reserves, conservation organisations and research projects.

The module begins by exploring Conservation Principles and Ethics, providing students with an understanding of the responsibilities, ethical considerations and decision-making processes that underpin effective conservation management. Building on this foundation, students progress into Conservation Principles and Practice, where they develop practical field skills through wildlife surveys, behavioural observations, habitat assessments, biodiversity monitoring, ecological data collection and scientific reporting.

Throughout the module, emphasis is placed on accurate data collection, critical thinking and understanding how field observations contribute to informed conservation management decisions. Whether your future lies in professional guiding, conservation research or reserve management, these practical skills provide a valuable foundation for understanding, protecting and managing Southern Africa’s unique natural heritage.
